Morre sobrevivente mais idoso dos campos de concentração

O homem mais idoso que sobreviveu aos campos de concentração nazistas, o austríaco Leopold Engleitner, faleceu no dia 21 de abril aos 107 anos, informou nesta quinta-feira o jornal austríaco Salzburger Nachrichten.
A sobrevivente mais idosa é Alice Herz-Sommer, nascida em 1903.
O falecimento só foi anunciado nesta quinta-feira para respeitar a vontade expressada por Leopold Engleitner antes de morrer.
Engleitner, nascido no dia 23 de julho de 1905 perto de Salzburgo, foi internado sucessivamente nos campos de concentração de Buchenwald, Niederhagen e Ravensbruck por ter se negado a integrar as fileiras das Forças Armadas alemãs durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial por razões religiosas.
A vida de Leopold Engleitner, que era Testemunha de Jeová, foi registrada em uma biografia publicada em 1999, “Ungebrochener Wille” (“Uma vontade de ferro”), e em um documentário.
